Fairbanks (6/19) - updated

Did some early morning hiking at the Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge (http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=creamersfield.main or http://www.friendsofcreamersfield.org). One was a guided hikewhere interestingly there were two other couples from Maryland and the guide was from Ohio. 

They had a Case tractor in the early days of the farm that was just a year or two older than ours. They have a model of theirs. 

Then a stop at the state wildlife dept who had a great animal exhibit (free). 

The guide suggested that a great spot for a picnic lunch was at the Botanical Gardens of University of Alaska Fairbanks. 

Then we relived a honeymoon event when we went on the Riverboat Discovery for ride on the river and it included a flost plane takeoff as nd landung, visiting the Dog sled training area developed by 4 time Iditarod champion (& 1st time female champion) the late Susan Butcher and an Alaskan Indian town.

But first we had to experience whay out woukd be like in the child of an Alaskan Winter. Other than it took a few minutes for my glasses to unfit, it wasn't bad. 

The Discovery III

Susan Butcher's daughter have us a sled dog demonstration. 

Toni didn't like the salmon dip 25 years ago and still didn't today. 

Also stopped at the Moose Antler Arch outside the  Fairbanks visitors center.

And back to the campground for some relaxing time by the river.  Watched a bald eagle through the binoculars.
